All upgrades were installed by me but like I said. I’m in no way an expert but I am very hands on and have been a mac user for 15 years.

Took it out again and was able to boot it up while connected via USB 3.0. To my surprise everything was still on it! I ran disk utility from another machine and everything came up fine. I thought this was it so I took out the SSD and tried to see if I can salvage anything on it. It started to not be able to see the start up disk, which is located on my SSD, at all. But once again very random and often just starts working again.Īs of last week it has been much worse. Crash report attached.įrom time to time It will crash and let out 3 beeps which i believe means that it cant detect the RAM. There is no clear pattern and seems to happen quite randomly. It will just crash and put up the Grey restart screen. The other way it has started to crash is when I have Chrome open. At this point I try to avoid i sitting on my lap and only put it on a rigid surface. It often comes back up with no issues but if i put too much pressure on that side or sometimes the bottom. This crash often makes several lines on the screen and just freezes until I perform a hard power down. The first way is when I put any pressure on the left side where all the ports are.
I have noticed it crashing in different ways. It was like a new computer and has worked great for the better part of 2 years.īut recently it keeps crashing.

I installed a SSD 2ish years ago (Crucial) I took out my Superdrive and replaced it with a HD caddy and my original 750gb HDD, 2ish years ago.Īnd after those upgrade boy did my Mac fly. I upgraded the RAM 3 years ago to max out at 16 GB (Crucial) First of all let me preface this post by telling you what I have upgraded in my machine. Another option is to purchase an external case for the hard drive, in which case you simply attach the drive whenever you need the data.Hopefully someone can help me. The data on the old drive is not tied to that drive, and its fairly simple to transfer it. Of course, reusing the hard drive also means that you now have a used, three year old drive in your Mac. Reboot the computer, and hold down the "T" key. Attach the hard drive to the adapter, and then plug into USB Purchase a USB to SATA adapter ( example) If the new Mac starts with the old hard drive, then you can safely swap it. This allows you to mount the hard drive externally, but boot the Mac from it. One thing that is easy to do, is to use the hard drive in target disk mode before you swap the hard drive. The hard drive has startup files that assume the presence of certain hardware. If it is a different model, things can get tricky. If you buy the same model Macbook, then the old hard drive should work perfectly.
